How to Fix Damage on Laminate Floors

Laminate flooring is a popular material for homeowners and businesses, especially children who enjoy running around on it. But, like any flooring, some need to be fixed or replaced. Here are some tips for repairing laminate flooring.

Repairing Cracking

Crazes or cracks in your laminate flooring can be a common problem if you’ve owned the flooring for several years. Fortunately, it’s fairly easy to repair such damage.

To fix cracking on your laminate flooring, you can fill the crack with wood filler. Some people prefer to use liquid nails, which is an excellent adhesive for laminate floor products. It dries clear and makes a strong bond between the laminate layers.

If you don’t have liquid nails, you can use a small amount of fiberglass insulation. It’s available in numerous colors and densities, so it’s the perfect option when you’re looking for a material to fill in cracks.

If you have liquid nails, use a drop or two on an end of a cotton swab. Spread the liquid around the crack for about 20 minutes, and then wipe up any excess with a cloth. If necessary, seal the crack with additional layers of liquid nails.

When using fiberglass insulation, cut a small piece for the crack and stick it in place with adhesive. Use a small piece and spread it around the crack to fill it. You can also use a combination of both fiberglass and liquid nails to create a stronger bond.

Repairing Scratches

Scratches in laminate flooring can be a problem, primarily when they’re located in high-traffic areas or where you want to create an eye-catching design with your laminate flooring. However, you don’t have to replace the entire flooring to fix scratches.

If your laminate flooring has a scratch you want to cover up, or if you wish to restore the shine and luster, you can use a product that will cover it up. If you don’t want to use an actual laminate flooring product, you can use a paste wax designed for leather products. They’re available in many colors, so you can usually find one that’s close to your flooring color.

After you apply the wax, buff it with a clean cloth to remove any excess. This will help to restore the original shine and luster of the flooring and return it to like-new condition.

Repairing Curling

If you have laminate flooring that curls in a specific area, you will have to do some minor repairs to fix the problem. If the curled area is small enough, you can use shims on each side of it to fill in any cracks. Place a shim on each side of the curled area, and then seal it in place with liquid nails.

If the curled area is larger than what shims can fix, you can install laminate flooring planks in that area. These planks will better match the existing flooring than if you installed an entire new laminate floor.

Fixing Laminate Flooring as Quickly as Possible Prevents Further Damage

Laminate flooring is a great way to add a new look to your home, but it does require some maintenance. Instead of ignoring any problems, you should try to fix them as quickly as possible. Otherwise, the damage caused by not doing floor repairs will only worsen over time.

Rather than throwing away your laminate flooring when you notice a problem, keep an eye on it and take care of any problems as soon as they arise. This will prevent the damage from getting worse and reduce the amount of work you’ll need to do to fix it.
